Cybersecurity Incident

Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver can confirm we experienced a cyber incident on August 12 in which criminals gained access to a limited number of files. Upon learning of the incident, we immediately took steps to contain the threat. There was no impact on operations or services. An investigation is under way and all evidence points to very limited impact on our network.

We never keep credit card information on file and can confirm no credit card or financial institution information was involved in this incident. We have touched base with affected individuals on an individual basis. Only impacted individuals will receive a notification email directly if data has been affected.

We take the security of personal information in our care very seriously. Our cybersecurity sub-committee has worked tirelessly to protect our organization from events such as this one. It is because of their work that the impact is limited. We’ve done substantial work around cybersecurity, however, like all organizations, we need to remain vigilant.

We would not be able to do the important work we do, especially at this very challenging time for all Jews, without our valued donors. The tzedakah you give allows us to support our community at home and the broader Jewish community globally. We understand the concern an incident like this might cause and you have our deepest commitment to continue strengthening our community’s safety -- both cyber and physical.

We will be touching base with affected individuals on an individual basis as quickly as possible.

We thank you for your understanding and dedication as we work through this. We are one of the many victims of cyber criminals and these cyber incidents have become all too common in Canada and globally.
