What do a former White House speechwriter and a previous fund manager at NM Rothschild have in common? In this case, a lot. They share a passion for Judaism and are the much-anticipated presenters for the Opening Night event of this year’s Annual Campaign.

We’re excited to kick off this year’s Annual Campaign on September 8 with an inspiring virtual edition of the Opening Night presentations you’ve enjoyed in years past, featuring Sarah Hurwitz and Nigel Savage as our keynote speakers. The event, which we’ll be streaming live, starts at 5:00 p.m. and will wrap up in under an hour.

Here is some background information about our two dynamic presenters.

Sarah Hurwitz
Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Chief Speechwriter and Author of Here All Along

Sarah Hurwitz has spent much of her career crafting speeches for some of the United States’ most influential political figures, including Hillary Clinton, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. She also was appointed by the President to serve on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

Sarah has now lent her considerable writing talents to her book, Here All Along: Finding Meaning, Spirituality, and a Deeper Connection to Life In Judaism (After Finally Choosing to Look There), which was a finalist in the 2019 National Jewish Book Awards. Sarah will share some insights about the rediscovery of her Jewish roots in her mid-30s, and the power and modern relevance of ancient Jewish scripture.

Nigel Savage
Founder, President and CEO of Hazon, the Jewish Lab for Sustainability

Nigel Savage is well known for his innovative approach to food sustainability with a Jewish twist. After a successful career in finance, he turned his attention toward building a movement that strengthens Jewish life in novel ways and contributes to a more environmentally sustainable world.

The focus of Nigel’s work with Hazon is an integral aspect of the work we’ve been doing with our partner, Jewish Family Services, as we move towards a more inclusive food security model.
