Isaac Bougie Herzog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI)

We are thrilled to bring Isaac Bougie Herzog, the new chairman of The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), to Vancouver for FEDtalks.

Isaac Bougie Herzog is one of the most well-respected leaders on the Israeli scene today, and he made international headlines when he left a 19-year career in politics to take the helm of JAFI – the biggest Jewish non-profit in the world. He is just a year into his new role, and it’s the perfect time to address our community and give us the kind of insight into their work that can only come from someone at the top.

JAFI played a pivotal role in the establishment of the modern State of Israel, and the organization remains committed to ensuring a vibrant future for Israel and connecting the global Jewish family. As the needs of the Jewish People changed, JAFI evolved the nature of their work in response. From facilitating Aliyah and helping vulnerable Israelis to building ties between Israel and diaspora Jewish communities, JAFI’s work spans the globe.

Here at home, JAFI helps us build bridges between our community and Israel with year-of-service initiatives like the ShinShin program. ShinShinim are teen emissaries who spend a year volunteering with kids in our community. They have connected with thousands of children across our community, and have helped young people learn about Israel in unique and personal ways. Through JAFI programs like MASA between fifteen to twenty local young adults each year have immersive study abroad, internship, service learning, or Jewish studies programs in Israel that help them grow as individuals, as professionals and as leaders.
