Celebrating Hanukkah in the Regional Communities

Our work and that of our partners in the regional communities outside of Vancouver is a great example of the ripple effect you make when you give through the Federation Annual Campaign.

The number of Jewish families and individuals in the regional communities is growing. When we asked what kinds of programs they would like to see, holiday celebrations topped the list. We’re proud to report that Hanukkah programming is going strong across the region from Squamish to Langley.

Sea-to-Sky and North Shore
Connect Me In, Jewish Federation’s outreach initiative, is hard at work this holiday season. The Squamish Jewish community had a Hanukkah preparation party with hanukkiah building, sufganiyot, and dreidel decorating.

On the North Shore, families and children gathered to dance, sing and nosh at an all-ages party at Har El. If you missed it, you still have a chance to join the North Shore Shabbat group, Har El, Or Shalom and Connect Me In for an all ages Hanukkah potluck at Kiwanis Village on December 28, 2019.

Langley, the Tri-Cities, White Rock and South Surrey
Connect Me In, Burquest Jewish Community Association, PJ Library, and BC Regional Hebrew schools all came together to organize two hugely successfully Hanukkah events in Langley and the Tri-Cities. Over 150 community members enjoyed building their own hannukiahs, a performance by Monika Schwartzman, and seeing how olive oil was made during the time of the Hanukkah story. In White Rock/South Surrey, students at WRSS JCC Hebrew School celebrated Hanukkah and enjoyed a special potluck lunch.

Many more opportunities to connect in the regional communities are on the way. Like Connect Me In on Facebook for updates or check the community calendar for events near you.

With the help of Jewish Federation, hundreds of people in the regional communities have come together celebrate Hanukkah. Your Annual Campaign gift creates a ripple effect in Jewish communities across the Lower Mainland, strengthening the quality of Jewish life across generations. And it means programs like Connect Me In can continue to deliver results with more flexible, innovative partnerships and programs than ever before. Donate today.
