Jewish leaders from around the world and right here in our community are showing their support for this event. Read their statements here:

Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver is pleased to confirm that we have invited award-winning Israeli singer Achinoam Nini (known as Noa) to perform on Yom Ha’atzmaut. We would like to thank all of the community members who provided feedback on our choice of performer, both positive and negative.

Our community members hold varied and passionate opinions about Israel and our Jewish community. We respect that diversity, which is one of the strengths of our community. Whatever one’s perspective may be, we are all motivated by our love for Israel.

We are also pleased to announce the addition of two new event sponsors, The Embassy of Israel in Canada and the Consulate General of Israel in Toronto (the official representative office of the Government of Israel in Ontario and the Western Provinces).

“We were thrilled when both the Embassy and the Consulate approached us with offers to be official sponsors of our Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration,” said Stephen Gaerber, Chair of the Board of Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver. “As official representatives of the State of Israel, we see support from the Embassy and the Consulate as strong messages that there is room for diversity both within Israel and within our community. We are also very happy that the Deputy Consul General is once again planning to represent the State of Israel at our Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration.”

Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver has a longstanding history of celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut in our community. This event will once again enjoy support from more than 50 Jewish community organizations.

We look forward to celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut with our community on May 11, 2016 at the Chan Centre.
