Security a Priority for this Year’s Campaign

The Federation Annual Campaign is the Jewish community’s main fundraising initiative that grows the financial resources needed to meet the specific needs of partner agencies, and the overall needs of our entire community. While the campaign benefits all areas of need in the Jewish community, this year’s campaign focuses particularly on the safety and security needs of our community, as outlined in our 2020 Strategic Priorities.

For years, Jewish Federation has taken a proactive approach to community security and will continue to lead on this important issue. The changing times show us the importance of not just responding to immediate security concerns, but also of developing a long term, comprehensive approach that keeps our community’s institutions safe and gives peace of mind to the people who use them.

Staying Ahead of the Curve

Security features prominently in this year’s campaign as a way to keep up with the changing times and stay ahead of the curve. An increase in anti-Semitic and anti-Israel sentiment around the world means our community’s security needs are shifting. Jewish Federation is responding in a proactive, preventative way.

This year’s Federation Annual Campaign chair, Alex Cristall, explained it well: “Community security is an issue that affects every single one of us every time we set foot in a Jewish institution, take part in a Jewish program or attend a community event. Through the Federation Annual Campaign, it is an issue we can all play our part in addressing.”

Planning Led by Federation’s Community Security Advisory Committee

Jewish Federation plays a significant role in planning and developing forward thinking approaches to keep the Lower Mainland’s Jewish community safe. Last fall we established our Community Security Advisory Committee, chaired by Bernard Pinsky, a past president of our Federation. The committee provides a leadership role in assessing the risks facing community institutions and proposing and evaluating proactive strategies to alleviate these areas of concern.

Invest in Community Safety and Security

Growing security needs require increased financial resources to address them. Jewish Federation depends on generous donors to the Federation Annual Campaign to address the ongoing needs of our Jewish community.

Please consider giving a new or increased campaign gift that will be matched to ensure the secure future of our Jewish community. Thank you for your contribution!
