Supporting Community During COVID
The past few months have been some of the most challenging ever experienced by our community. Here is how we are supporting our community:

Emergency Funding

Just days into the initial shutdown, we released more than $500,000 to meet the urgent needs of community organizations hit hard by COVID-19.

  • Jewish Family Services: $170,000 for food security, financial assistance for seniors, housing support and counselling services.
  • Jewish Community Centre: $130,000 for program subsidies, daycare scholarships, and seniors services.
  • Tikva Housing: $30,000 to help community members who unable to pay their rent.
  • Jewish Day Schools: $115,000 for tuition deferrals for families hit hard by COVID-19.
  • Supplementary Schools: $24,000 to transition to online learning.
  • Kehila Society of Richmond: $6,500 for emergency food distribution.
  • Seniors Peer Services: $5,500 to help provide emotional support.
  • Overnight Camps: $24,000 for two B.C. based camps to help with increased costs due to COVID-19

Community Recovery Task Force

We then established the Community Recovery Task Force, chaired by Risa Levine. Comprised of well-respected and experienced leaders from across the community, the task force is assisting in the development of a strategic long-term response to the pandemic on local Jewish community life. Watch these videos where Risa Levine shares some insights about the task force's important work and the impact of COVID on the community. You can also learn more here.

Federation Annual Campaign & Community Recovery Fund

The COVID-19 crisis has increased our community needs exponentially. The crisis is far from over and its economic impact on the most vulnerable members of community will be felt for an untold length of time. We have worked closely with our major donors to ensure their ongoing support for community, and many of them have made significant additional contributions to the Community Recovery Fund.

Give Like Community Depends On It

This year, we are asking those who are able to support our community through the Federation Annual Campaign and make an additional, one-time gift of 19% to the Community Recovery Fund. Please donate today.
